The DIYer can enjoy whatever life he gets from them, then rebuild with something else. The amp they're going in has Eico iron UL taps, ohm p-p. It'll be fun listening for a couple of years, then I'll have to redo the bases and convert back to a mundane old EL That's a typical tradeoff.Adding and subtracting rational expressions practice answers
When my last 6LF6s are starting to puff a bit going uphill, I suppose I'll get off my lazy butt and make another sweep tube work on this chassis. Looking at the characteristics of the EL, it looks like a fine candidate for screen drive, albeit with a dB or so less power than I can get with 6LF6s.
Hello, Quote:. I'm looking for more info on this amp. If anyone has any let me know. Hi, Quote:. Thanks for looking, No I haven't considered drawing the circuit.
I was given the circuits and other info but they vanished. I've converted a couple of futterman types to 6KG6 a few years back. BUT at least you can get'em. I been looking on ebay, pricey do's anyone have any good info on how to match tubes?
I have a tester Eico just gotta figure out how to use it. Ray 6lf6 otl amp. Those that are interested in a group purchase maybe we can arrange something. I'm going to look into this. Page 2 of 3. It is a very rugged device, I never had any problem. But the phase shifts inherent transformer and inductor use could turn the amplifier into an oscillator. The Cathode Follower has the advantage of reducing the size of the coupling capacitor needed although, the cathode directly attaches to the input grids of the output tubes, the Cathode Follower itself still sees a coupling capacitor at its grid.
It also fights the output tube's grid from pulling up the grid voltage at input overload. So, why not use a Cathode Follower directly to grid 1? You certainly could, but then you would have to make sure not to remove or jiggle any of the Cathode Follower tubes while the amplifier was in use.
Furthermore, always try to use as little extra circuitry in the signal path as possible. Besides, the first solution, using a low value grid resistor, could offer some extra advantages. This would certainly be more expensive but worth it. The advantage of this arrangement lies in the added protection it offers the output tubes in the event of a tube failure.
For example, if an output tube develops a short from its grid to its cathode, then only this tube will conduct wildly and glow red, as this fault cannot spread to the other output tubes because of the DC blocking performed by each coupling capacitor. Additionally, this setup allows for setting the biasing each tube individually, lessening the need for tube matching. Furthermore, I would prefer to use smaller valued capacitors, as I distrust large valued capacitors and worry about a poorer high frequency limit due to the increased inductance that comes from the additional windings.
The EL data sheet states that its grid 1 sees no more than k resistance to the bias voltage source. If this guideline is not followed, we risk having the output tube break into positive grid bias. The k limit must be divided by number of output tubes used per bank. This resistance is the load impedance that the phase splitter stage must drive. An ultra-linear power amplifier output stage with individual coupling capacitors per output tube. The signal relationships are shown at the left of the schematic.Ratings for use in Class B push-pull are readily available from Philips datasheets available on the internet.
An anode voltage up to V, screen voltage of V, and a relatively low anode to anode load of 3. Canberra based design engineer Patrick Turner is one who has investigated audio applications for the 6CM5. You can visit his website article and pic of this amplifier.
They are always sad to have to return it when their solid state amp is fixed. The amp is by no means a state-of-the-art high-end unit in terms of style and finish, but it is amazing how much better it is than most other more powerful solid state amp's. In each channel, the 6CM5 TV line output output valves are connected as triodes and are driven by a long-tail pair using a 6CG7. The input tube is a paralleled 12AT7. The output transformers were made in in Sydney and the power transformer and chassis is a new one by T.
The pale coloured aluminium central box is a channel with solid-state components for regulating the anode supply instead of using a choke.
The sound is clean, accurate, detailed, emotionally involving, with the typical smooth treble and precise bass with a warm midrange. There is a perforated steel cover which fastens down over the top of the amp to prevent anyone coming into contact with high voltage terminals".
I am most grateful for John's contribution of time, experience and knowledge as evidenced below. John contacted me in August - it quickly became evident that he had a much much greater knowledge of this interesting valve than I, and therefore I am most appreciative of his willingness to allow me to repeat his advice to me here.
For someone who grew up in the 's, it's ironic that I learnt about valves before solid state. I'm into collecting, restoring and building monochrome valve TV sets. As I build a lot of valve projects requiring an audio stage the 6CM5 has been of interest, especially as I have a huge quantity of them! I've built numerous other AM and FM radios using only TV valves rather than comparatively rare and expensive GT and G style radio valves, which I'd rather keep for equipment made in that era.
There must be at least 6BL8's in my valve collection, and what a useful valve that is, for example. It's usefulness goes way beyond the mixer oscillator use mentioned in the data books. The other thing with TV valves, particularly the European ones, is they are good performers with low voltage anode and screen. This is an advantage when you want to build up a power supply with modern transformers.
For someone who wants to get into valve technology these days, TV valves are ideal! Outside Australia the 6CM5 valve is virtually unknown. US, UK and European data books often do not show it.
As a point of interest, one of my colleagues did the curves for the 6CM5 at AWA when they started making the valve. It is important to remember that series heater TV sets were standard in the UK and Europe, whereas parallel heater designs were pretty much unique to Australia and about half of US sets.
New Zealand followed the series heater designs to a much greater degree than here in Australia. The 6CM5 is not a plug in equivalent, although it might have the same or similar connections.
What is unique about the 6CM5 is the low anode voltage. Again, the series heater TV design was responsible for this.
Convert 6LQ6 to EL-509 in Swan 500CX
So, any line output valve is going to need a very small voltage drop from anode to cathode when it is turned hard on. This means that for Class A audio, the 6CM5 is one of the worst valves you could use. Not to be deterred, I have experimented just to see what I could get out of a single-ended Class A output stage.
Actually I've got a car radio project coming up.QRZ Forums. I'm looking for someone who has the scoop on todays Russian tubes. The amp works well and I want to purchase some more tubes as replacements and other mods. Anyone know if these are all the same or at least compatable?Audi a6 screen not retracting
I'm figuring the tubes with the "45" designator might be the same but the one with "42" has me a bit purplexed? Overseas shipping has gotten pretty expensive so I want to get it right! Thanks in advance for any info.

K3KLDec 27, The "P" series tubes should be the same except that they are rated for pulse service and therefore are a "bit" heftier in construction.
Also, since the "P" series is used in a lot of medical equipment and since that equipment usually has the tubes replaced on a regular basis whether or not they are bad, you can often get used, but still excellent, "P" series tubes for very good prices.
Glen, K9STH. K9STHDec 27, I've just done alittle more research. Good news is electrically similar replacements are available. Please note that these are OEM spec sheets, except for some of the Resistance Coupled Amplifier charts, you will not be downloading any pages of a regular tube manual that you already have.

The four output tubes In any case should we create the ELS - at least when data is available. Dear Jan Thank you very much for this answer and the interesting attachment. I hope somebody will upload this after having cut the top with the name EL I just can't do it timewise The EL says 2. Also that is not the entire Anode to everything else capacitance. It's also likely the Octal version with no top cap has higher inductances in series each electrode.

At home it appeared, that these tubes had an octal base and no top-cap. The pin-out is like the 6L6, but pin 1 ground is missing. Best regards. What does "NOS" mean, anyway?
Much like antiques, "NOS" tubes are currently not being manufactured and this means their supply is dwindling while the price continues to rise. For most NOS tubes we have a variety of brands available. However, there are instances where lesser known brands are in stock. If you have a particular brand you prefer you can simply request it in the Order Comment box when you place your order.
All our tubes are guaranteed for 3 months from the date of purchase. Any exceptions will be noted on that tube's Warranty tab If you receive a tube that does not perform to the manufacturer's specifications, please do the following: - contact us to get a return authorization - return it via regular mail within 90 days from when we shipped it, and we will provide an exchange or refund of the full purchase price of the tube.
